G318 Local Mitigation Planning

Wednesday, March 27 – Thursday, March 28, 2019   (2-day course)

Pierre, 8:30 am – 4:00 pm

The purpose of the workshop is to provide guidance on developing or updating local and tribal hazard mitigation plans to meet the requirements of Title 44 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) §201.6 and §201.7 for FEMA approval and eligibility to apply for FEMA Hazard Mitigation Assistance grant programs. The workshop covers the local hazard mitigation plan requirements, such as the planning process, risk assessment, and mitigation strategy. As most South Dakota communities are currently updating their current hazard mitigation plans this workshop will have a strong focus on developing solid mitigation project ideas. Please note that participants will be reviewing their current plans during the workshop.

Join South Dakota State Hazard Mitigation Officer Jim Poppen, FEMA Senior Planner Nicole Aimone, and Hazard Grants Program Specialist Kevin Williams to learn practical approaches and examples for how communities can engage in and implement effective planning to reduce long-term risk from natural hazards and disasters.

Upon successful completion of this workshop, participants will be able to define hazard mitigation and the benefits of mitigation planning, develop or update a local hazard mitigation plan, and identify resources and guidance available for mitigation planning and plan implementation into mitigation projects.

Audience: Any personnel involved in the development of their local hazard mitigation plan to include local government and tribal officials, emergency managers, land use planners, engineers, and floodplain administrators.

Note: This training has been certified for 12 CEC’s for Certified Floodplain Managers.

Venue Information: You will receive specific training location information via e-mail when you have been approved to attend this course by the administrator. Please allow for up to 48 hours for this to occur.
