G205 Recovery from Disaster-The Local Government Role. 

Tuesday, January 23 – Wednesday, 24, 2024 –  Pierre 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM  CST

This 2 day course explores the role, design, and functions of Emergency Operations Centers (EOCs) and their relationship in disaster recovery for local level of government. It is intended to increase local government awareness of issues involved in disaster recovery by providing a forum for discussion of “lessons learned” in disaster recovery and promote the development of a pre-disaster recovery plan at the county or local levels of government.

Course  will begin at 0830 CT both days.

Course Objectives

  • Understand local community responsibilities and challenges associated with disaster recovery.
  • Discuss “lessons learned” in disaster recovery at the local level.
  • Develop and implement a pre-disaster recovery plan.

Audience: This course is designed for local elected officials (mayor, city/county council member), tribal leaders, city/county manager/staff, city/county planners/staff, regional planning commissions, economic development districts, finance director/assessor, emergency manager/staff, public works director/staff, building inspector/staff, floodplain manager/staff, health care administrator or planner, public information officer, housing director or planner/staff, voluntary agency coordinator or unmet needs committee coordinator, business organization representative, administrative director/manager, state recovery staff and partners (so they can be tuned into recovery at the local level)

Prerequisites: Recommended, but not required: IS0100.b, Introduction to the Incident Command System, ICS 100; IS2900, National Disaster Recovery Framework (NDRF) Overview

***This is a required course to obtain the Advanced Professional Series (APS) certificate through FEMA***

Venue Information: You will receive specific training location information via e-mail when you have been approved to attend this course by the administrator. Please allow for up to 48 hours for this to occur.

To receive credit for training you must be present for the entire course.

**SD Office of Emergency Management is providing this training at no charge to participants.**

Canceling Registrations

  • If a student can no longer attend a training they have registered for, they are asked to notify the State Training Officer as soon as possible prior to the date of class. At least 2 week’s notice is preferred, as then persons on waitlists can be let into the training with this notification. It is understood that certain circumstances may occur at times to prevent the giving of proper notification of cancelation.
