Course Description: The purpose of this course is to educate students in the process of developing quality mitigation planning and project grant application elements for the Unified Hazard Mitigation Assistance (HMA) grant programs.

Prerequisites: IS-0393.b Introduction to Hazard Mitigation  Please upload your certificate of completion to the DHS-FEMA application or email to State Training Officer at Colleen.Dryden@State.sd.us

Target Audience: This course is intended for local jurisdictions, tribal governments, non-profit organizations, state, FEMA employees, and public or private sector organizations that offer consulting services to Unified HMA grant applicants.

L0212 Course Goal: Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Describe HMA programs that fund mitigation activities, planning, planning-related activities, and projects.
  • Explain mitigation concepts.
  • Identify eligible mitigation activities.
  • Identify the steps of completing capability and capacity building sub-applications (including planning).
  • Describe the process for completing project sub-applications.

To receive credit for training you must be present for the entire course.

You will receive specific class information with the student materials/links via e-mail, approximately 5 days prior to class start.

Venue Information: You will receive specific training location information via e-mail when you have been approved to attend this course by the administrator. Please allow for up to 48 hours for this to occur.

Canceling Registrations

  • If a student can no longer attend a training they have registered for, they are asked to notify the State Training Officer as soon as possible prior to the date of class. At least 2 week’s notice is preferred, as then persons on waitlists can be let into the training with this notification. It is understood that certain circumstances may occur at times to prevent the giving of proper notification of cancelation.
